I love my garden and I enjoy watching all the bees buzzing from flower to flower to pollinate all of my plants. I am glad they stay away from me and I am glad I have my Bite Me Not for all of my other outdoor adventures. In a few weeks, my husband and I will go on a backpacking trip and I will have my Bite Me Not Bug Spray in the pocket of my backpack ready to spray! I love this stuff and love the citrus scent knowing that I am enjoying the outdoors and the insects are not enjoying me. Since I have mine already, I wanted you to have some Bite Me Not Bug Spray too, so I am offering 30% off the 8 oz. Bite Me Not. Click here and use the discount code BITEMENOT when you go to check out, but do it before July 25th when the sale ends.

If you need other reasons to order now besides the 30% off, here are some that have convinced me!

1. Bite Me Not is ALL NATURAL and made with essential oils like lemon, rosemary and eucalyptus that naturally repel insects. Safe for you. Safe for your kiddos!

2. Other name brand bug repellents can be loaded with harmful chemicals. Did you know it only takes 26 seconds for chemicals to enter your bloodstream and they can stay in your body for years. No thanks!

3. You want to smell nice and not repel your friends and family. Spraying on essential oils smells better than the non natural brand of insect repellent.

4. Lastly, because you are worth natural and your skin loves natural. I believe I really do deserve natural...and I believe you do too!

Click here to order your Bite Me Not Bug Spray and read on for a hilarious story of our trip back east of spraying milk and a little insight into what else I love to do!

Glad you made it to the Blog!

Don't forget to Click here to order your Bite Me Not Bug Spray and enjoy the blog.

So my hubby and I just got back from a trip back east helping a friend build a deck. It was a lot of fun since our friends have four year old fraternal twin boys and a 4 month old baby. One of my funny highlights was going for a ride in the the side-by-side to the dairy farm and filling our milk jugs with fresh milk from the parlor. It was a beautiful little ride with a view of farmland and corn growing in the fields. The farm had about 200 milking cows and some baby calfs. We were fortunate to stop in during the milking time so we could actually pet the cows and see how they were milked. While we were in the milking room one of the curious little twins pushed a button that wasn't meant to be pushed...and wa la..milk came spraying out of a pipe in a 360 degree direction. Luckily the hired help was quick to get the milk stopped but we were all soaked with milk from head to toe. I thought it was hilarious as milk dripped from my hair and the stickiness set in. Needless to say, we went back home for showers and came back to fill the milk jug! Some of my other highlights were getting ice cream at The Creamy with a line of cars backed up for blocks waiting to get in on all of the deliciousness! I also enjoyed the big green lawns every house had, fields and fields of farmland and riding four wheelers in the woods. It was a great little vacation!!

Now we are back home and I've been busy catching up with the garden. My oh my....did it ever grow while we were gone and I no longer have rows to walk down so I tip toe through them being careful not to step on a cucumber and squash it! This is the first year that I seem to be growing cantaloupe and musk melon successfully. I can't wait to eat this fresh from the garden. With all of my cucumbers, I have canned dill pickles, bread & butter pickles and dill relish! I've also been busy giving away squash, zucchini and cucumbers to friends and neighbors since I have far more than I can use. If you live near by, come on by and grab some!

Ahhhh, my heart is content....I absolutely love growing my own food and canning it. Such a sense of accomplishment and reward. I also love making soap and all my other products for you to enjoy and benefit from. I would love to know what product you absolutely love. Write me and let me know!

Many blessing to all of you and may you have peace and joy in your lives!

Until next time and don't forget to order your 8 oz. Bite Me Not! Offer expires July 25th!

Blessings,

Debbie, The Essential Olive

P.S. Why Anti-Aging Cream?

Why Soap?

Because I love homemade.

Because I love natural.

Because I love simple.

Because I love creating.

This is me...well part of me and this is why I have been making soap and adding other homemade and natural products for the past 20 years. I also like to create and you need Soap, a simple basic need. You also need Natural Deodorant and you need to take a bath and enjoy our Lavender Bath Bombs. Men, you need to shave and keep the outdoor adventure bugs away. Women, you need some moisturizers because you love soft skin and you also love a beautiful face, so you need Anti-Aging Creme. Yes, you have simple basic needs to live each day naturally and I have created a simple natural solution for you which I put all into my business, The Essential Olive.

Why my Anti-Aging Creme?

1. It is all Natural. It has 4 simple base ingredients plus 2 essential oils for scent.

2. It has zero harsh chemicals.

So that is it! Simple. Natural. Homemade. I created it for you (and me).

You might wonder how can I create anything so wonderful and so good for you with only 4 base ingredients. Easy...you use some of the best ingredients like Uccuba Butter, Shea Butter, Camelila Seed Oil and Argan Oil. You also don't add ingredients that are harsh and ingredients with words that you can't pronounce or don't know what they are. You do want to know what you are putting on you skin so below are the ingredients and the benefits of them.

Ucuuba Butter is made from the seeds of the ucuuba plant which is native to South America. It has high amounts of Vitamin A and C. Vitamin C helps to reverse DNA damage and Vitamin A is often used in quality skincare products to treat acne, fine lines and other signs of aging.

Argan Oil is derived from the kernels of the Argan tree that is found in Morocco. Argan Oil is a super moisturizer and is rich in Vitamin E and Vitamin A along with antioxidants which help to tone and hydrate the skin.

Camelila Seed Oil is rich in omega 6 fatty acids as well as antioxidants.

Shea Butter comes from the African Shea tree. This rich butter will soothe the skin and has a high amount of Vitamin E which is great for anti-aging and because of the high fatty acid content, it will nourish the skin and fight off anti-aging to keep you looking your best, naturally.

And did you know....

1. You are naturally getting older each moment. We can't stop this and our skin just involuntarily loses its elasticity. Our epidermal (outermost skin layer) becomes thinner and becomes prone to damage along with increasing wrinkles and sagging.

2. After the age of 25, we start to lose collagen, gradually. We lose about 1% each year.

3. As a woman, you can lose up to 30% of your collagen in the first 5 years of menopause.

4. If this is the case, then what are you doing (or going to do) to supplement this loss as you mature?

So now you know. So now you can do something about it before it gets too out of control. I'm all about being proactive...it is easier than having to fix something you know is going to break later on, so ladies, let's get started with the skin care routine.

1. Wash your face morning and evening with soap from The Essential Olive which is a perfect cleanser and superior moisturizer. If you like a little exfoliation in your soap, try the Oatmeal with real oatmeal, the Lemon & Clove with Poppyseeds or try the Felted Soap made with real wool and felted onto a bar of soap.

2. Facial Toner - spray on to tone that face and keep wrinkles at bay. Let dry and then apply anti-aging cream.

3. Anti-Aging Cream - I use this as my moisturizer before my make-up and as my night cream to help my skin repair itself from any damage I have had throughout the day like the sun or wind.

So it is as easy as 1-2-3 and it only takes about 3 minutes. Click here or on the link below to watch the video of my daily facial routine and enjoy!
I hope you are all doing well and I hope your extra time at home as been good in many ways that you never thought it could of been before.

I have been enjoying this season as I sit on my back porch with my work computer and a view of my beautiful backyard in full spring....I love the green! I have been busy pulling weeds, planting a garden and my husband who cannot work right now, is remodeling one of our bathrooms. My husband and I have also been taking advantage of the beautiful weather with hiking, biking and Dutch Oven cooking over a fire. He is the best cook and makes chicken stew, pizza and sourdough cinnamon rolls! He cooks and even cleans his pots! (Spoiled wife!) This different season we are all experiencing has definitely created a slower paced life....which reminds me of how simple life can be.

Even though it has already been 6+ weeks at home, it has still flown by. With May turning that corner in a few days, Mother's Day is almost here and The Essential Olive has some great gift ideas that are perfect for Mom! My definition of perfect means no dusting, it's consumable and kills germs, it cleans and it smells really good. And if you guessed I was talking about SOAP...you're absolutely right!

Soap is simple. Basic soap from The Essential Olive is made with 5 simple ingredients....olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, lye & water. If your wondering why I chose olive oil, simply put, it's because it is an excellent moisturizer. Palm oil makes your soap have longevity so it lasts way longer in the shower. Lastly, coconut oil gives you a rich and creamy lather. I use a loofa when I shower and I love all the lather it creates...it makes me feel so pampered since us Mamas need pampering!

So for Mother's Day, you can check out our gift sets by clicking here and choose from Lavender, Sandalwood, Coconut and Honey Almond. If you want something different, feel free to choose your own products and scents. If you don't see what you want, just ask...I just might be able to whip it up for you! And while your looking around at all the great products...be sure to stock up on natural deodorant and enjoy the SALE until the end of May.

Well ladies, I hope you have found the good in this craziness lately. If it has been hard emotionally, your tired of being home or money has been tight, I pray for peace and hope for you along with provision.

Blessings to you and your family from my family and The Essential Olive

Debbie
I pray that you are all well and that you are finding peace in the midst of this crazy time in our world. I offer you hope and joy today and to look for the good that we will see from this point in history…like families being able to spend more time together, extra time for people to rest and watch a movie, read a book, going through photos and having a good laugh from memories. Maybe even making a few phone calls to someone you haven’t talked to in a long time. You could even be inspired. Did you know that when “the Great Plague of London was happening in 1665, Cambridge University shut down<span style="background-color: #fef9f5; color: #121212; font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 15pt;"> and Isaac Newton was forced to stay home. During this time, he invented calculus, parts of optic theory and allegedly, while sitting in his garden, he saw an apple fall from a tree that inspired his understanding of gravity and the laws of motion.” Wow! Imagine and think about what you could do during this time?

So lets talk soap….Right now there are tons of articles on how soap washing is the best way to keep germs, bacteria and viruses away. I have been reading how effective soap really is at killing germs, bacteria and viruses that our skin comes in contact with on a daily basis. In my research, I discovered that there are thousands of these nasty things that we come into contact with every day. For instance, your phone is covered in germs and has 25,127 bacteria per square inch which makes it one of the dirtiest items you touch. Yikes!

When we say the word "soap", we think of clean, sudsy and a great scent! These words are spot on but one thing we can now think about soap is that when soap is diluted in water, it is strong enough to rupture and kill many types of viruses & bacteria, which include the coronavirus. Soap is the most effective product to use and hand sanitizers are great to use when soap isn't around, but hand sanitizers are not as reliable as good ole soap. And with so many of us having a staycation, we all should be able to use soap.

For a simple explanation of what is going on with soap and how they kill viruses, I've added two pictures down below (because pictures always help me understand more clearly). We can see that the little tails on the soap molecules are made to avoid water but bond with oil and fat...which is what is surrounded by the coronavirus. These tails act like crowbars and wedge their way into the virus and destabilize it. The virus membrane then ruptures and is surrounded by water which kills the bacteria and destroys the virus. Yeah!!! So by washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds, you then destroy the virus and wash it away.

It is so amazing how the discovery of soap was made and how it works for us. Having good hygiene, drinking plenty of good fluids, eating the right foods and having a good mental attitude all contribute to how healthy you will be.

I hope you are set for the holidays and ready to have some fun with friends and family, eat some really good food and get some time to just sit and enjoy life!

Thank you for supporting The Essential Olive and I trust you have enjoyed your products, whether it was some Natural Deodorant, Soap, Essential Oil Roll Ons or some Lip Balm!

By supporting The Essential Olive, you have also supported a few schools in some small villages in Mozambique, Africa. Back in 2009, Julie Miller, started a preschool under a mango tree with just a few children and now there are three schools! These schools have not only given children an education but a hope to provide for the next generation as well as jobs for the local community. So thank you for making a difference!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Life is good and so full of goodness! I hope all of you are well. Myself...doing great and love what I am doing....I only wish I could duplicate myself and accomplish all the things I want to do, places I want to go and see and all that I want to learn and look at Pinterest for more ideas that I don't really have time for. Oh my, right???
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So since last time...here's a quick update...January came in with rain and more rain and 50 baby chicks for some new laying hens that have just started laying...getting 38 eggs a day now! February we celebrated my husbands 50th birthday with him summiting Mt. Shasta last weekend...something that has been on his bucket list. March, I was able to plant my garden that is producing lots of beans, peas and lettuce. April...it was still raining but attendees still showed up to buy Soaps, Bath Fizzies, Sea Salt Scrubs and Lip Balm at the Roses & Rust Vintage Fair. April concluded with Senior Prom for my youngest and his beautiful girlfriend. May can running in and out with graduation festivities and family fun on the lake. June has been filled up with camping trips, Lake Tahoe and some rafting to come. (See photos)
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">As for The Essential Olive, the one thing I have been really testing lately is my Female Peace Roll On. I am at that age where the "change" is happening and with some minor cramping, I have been using my Female Peace. I find that within about 20 minutes, my cramping has decreased...this I love! Female Peace is a Synergy Blend designed to ease the discomfort and imbalances of PMS, peri-menopause and menopause and it promotes a sense of well being. It contains the essential oils Roman Chamomile, Clary Sage, Geranium, Palmarosa, Rose and Sandalwood. (At the end of the blog is a list of what these essential oils do.) And with peri-menopause, we all know that our periods can become obnoxiously heavy as I have experienced. Because of this, I felt like needed to replenish my body with some iron and I LOVE molasses. It is like candy to me and so I grab my Blackstrap Molasses and take a couple spoonfuls (only 1 tsp. if you are new to this.) I did some research on molasses as well and found out that it is not only good for iron, but also for the following.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Blackstrap molasses full of nutrients and when vitamins are taken in a food source instead of a pill, they are more likely to be assimilated into the body.
Happy 2017!!! I hope each of you has had a moment to sit down with your cup of coffee (tea in my case) and ponder on 2016. If you haven't, I challenge you to take some time to do this. I think it brings clarity and causes us to be deliberate about things we can change or improve on for 2017. Change doesn't just happen on it's own and often change requires YOU to be the catapult. If we don't purposely challenge ourselves to grow in a positive way, then next year at this time, what will have changed? This year I journaled and actually wrote out questions and the answers about 2016 and 2017. My former habit is to come up with a quick answer, get back to work and not every really be deliberate about doing anything with my answers. But...this year, I am and have already started changing some thought patterns and "doing" the answers to my questions. Anyway, God and I got all the questions answered together and below are some of the questions that you might want to take some time to meditate.

What lessons have I learned in 2016?

Who have I become in 2016?

Who has God become for me in 2016?

Where am I going in 2017?

What does God want to be for me in 2017?

What upgrades will I get in 2017 and how do I prepare for the upgrade?

I am anxious to continue the pursuit of the 2017 answers, live them out and then re-read my journal next year at this time to see my personal growth and the things God has brought me through.

So bringing in the New Year with The Essential Olive, some of my goals are to market my Felted Soap. You ask..."what is felted soap?" The answer is simple, its soap wrapped up in wool that is felted. Since I have a lot soap and I have a friend that has a lot of sheep, we recently collaborated to make felted soap! Some of the benefits of felted soap are listed below.

they make your soap last longer

it is a natural washcloth and exfoliator

doesn't slip out of your hands

the wool is anti-fungal and you can use for a cleaning scrubby after the soap is gone

What a deal...organic olive oil soap with fine rambouillet wool...a locally made product from northern California. You can check out The Essential Olive and <span style="background-color: white; color: #006621; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; white-space: nowrap;">Lani's Lana <span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; white-space: nowrap;">websites.

Next on the list....beard oil...know any men with a beard???

Til then, smile, forgive, love and walk in who YOU are. There is no better YOU!

<span style="background-color: white; color: #006621; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; white-space: nowrap;">

The weather has been beautiful as I sit out in my rocker lawn chair on the back porch sipping my Irish Creme Tea! I absolutely love these moments of quiet times and expressing my thoughts. They don't happen often enough!

We started our summer off with Tom and I celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and taking a short backpack trip in the Trinity Alps. Our plan is to take a longer trip to either Alaska or Hawaii in the near future. Can't wait!

The rest of our summer was mostly filled with rafting and getting ready for a big show called the Candy Dance in Genoa, NV. Needless to say, my house was filled with aromas of all the different soaps, over 1000 yummy lip balm and boxes of sea salt scrubs, body butters and all the other products. My soap room was literally filled to the ceiling. The show ended up being a ton on fun and there were a ton of shoppers with wagons being pulled behind them as they purchased all kinds of goodies from all the vendors.

Now the toothpaste....

So are you wondering about my catchy title about toothpaste? The reasoning behind this is that the Fall time is a great time to make toothpaste! With a puzzled look on your face, you are now asking "why". I respond with "Because Fall brings cooler weather and cooler weather means that my toothpaste doesn't melt." I know, now you are a bit confused...toothpaste melting??? Well if you haven't guessed yet, I make my own toothpaste with coconut oil which has a melting point of 76 degrees. Thus my house in the summer time is usually around 79 degrees...which means my toothpaste is usually a bit runny. So I have been testing this product for a year now and I really like it. Yes, it is different from toothpaste from the store, but it is better for you and cheaper!

So are you ready to make you own? First, lets look at the benefits!

1. Coconut Oil naturally contains antibacterial/antimicrobial properties because of its high lauric acid content.

2. Baking Soda neutralizes acid loving bacteria in your mouth which is responsible for causing cavities. Baking Soda is known for whitening teeth, removing plaque and maintaining healthy gums.

3. Xylitol is a natural sweetener and contains cavity-fighting properties. From my research, I have read that Xylitol gets ride of the harmful bacteria and raises the pH in your mouth. It can also protect and remineralize teeth by repairing the deep layers of enamel.

4. If you flavor your toothpaste with peppermint, cinnamon or citrus essential oil, all of these oils have antibacterial properties.

Now if you want all of these benefits, but don't have time to gather the ingredients and make it for yourself, The Essential Olive can help, just let me know! Otherwise, here's the recipe!
<span style="color: orange; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

I hope you are excited as I am about Spring! The flowers are blooming (tulips are my favorite with lilacs next in line), the leaves are popping out (my car is yellow from pollen...thank God I do not have allergies), my peas & potatoes are growing in the garden, wood chips for the garden are being delivered from the local tree cutting service and the pool is starting to warm up! Oh...Spring is here!!! I am so thankful for all these things and especially for the good winter rains we have had. These rains have helped fill up Shasta Lake and brings healing to our dry land.

I have found that being thankful is extremely helpful in always walking with a good attitude. If I am having a not so great day, I just start thanking God for whatever...like a clean house or a messy house too. Messy tells me that I am busy with many projects and that I am healthy and am able to use my arms and legs and my brain. I am thankful that I am able to wash dishes, for the sun that warms me, for my amazing kids and a great husband....my thankful list is endless!

Speaking of projects, I am always trying something new and my very latest homemade creation is keifer. Every tried it? It is super easy to make and is great in smoothies. There are 36 - 56 kinds of good bacteria in homemade keifer. You ask, "Why do we need good bacteria?" Well good bacteria is necessary to properly digest food and to absorb nutrients. It also plays a big role in our immunity. For more information on good bacteria, I recommend checking out this link from Wellness Mama.

Another project with The Essential Olive includes making deodorant. I have really cute little deodorant tubes for purchase! I have been using my homemade deodorant for a few years now and love it! You can find some of these deodorant tubes at Roses & Rust, April 8-9 at the Anderson Fair Grounds or email me to order yours.

I am also working on a Baby line of products which include a Baby Oil, homemade washable Baby Wipes with a Natural homemade Baby Wipe Solution and a Baby Wrap. My Mom is a is an excellent seamstress and she has made these wipes and wraps. These products will be launched soon! Be watching my Facebook post when the launch comes out!

With summer quickly approaching what do you have planned? We recently purchased a raft so that we can have some white water fun on the Trinity River this summer. We are planning a couple of trips with friends and family. We also have 4 kayaks so we can will have a slew of people going down the river! So fun and can't wait! Along with that, we have a few camping trip set up. My husband and I will probably squeeze in an overnight backpack trip too so that I can use my new backpack! Ya Hoo!

Well don't forget to shop local and support all those mom and pop places that bring a friendly smile to your community. Community is huge these days...getting to know where the products you buy come from and who is making them.

Thanks for reading I'd love to hear a quick "hello" from you if you enjoyed this!

Enjoy, Be Thankful & Blessings!
If you have not yet discovered Roll-On Essential Oils, then you are going to love them! And if you are asking what a Roll-On is, then read on my friend! A Roll-On is simply a small glass tube with a ball on top that you can roll on your essential oils with. They can be filled with a carrier oil and then your favorite essential oil or a synergy blend. Your next question might be what is a synergy blend. A simple definition for “synergy” that is used in aromatherapy is the "working together of two essential oils that result in an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects." You can get a more powerful therapeutic result when essential oils are blended together rather than when each oil is used individually.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">The Essential Olive carries several Roll-Ons I recently took a little vacation back east to visit family and brought my Roll-Ons. They traveled well, no mixing each time I needed one, no leaking, no messes and they were great for grabbing whatever one I needed and tossing it in my pocket. At home, I have them in my purse, on the desk at work, the computer backpack and in the car. They are durable and I have even dropped them on cement and they did not break! I love them! From sore muscles and headaches to those female monthly symptoms!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are enjoying your July! Our family has been having a great summer and enjoying the great outdoors! We just went rafting on the Trinity River yesterday with all the kids and 2 grandkids! Great fun and as a Mom, I love to see my kids getting along and playing in the water together and laughing! It makes a Mom's heart melt, right?

I also have been busy with prepping for the upcoming fairs and bazaars this fall and holiday season along with working on getting more organized in a small room with all of my soap stock, all the other products and the endless supplies. There is only so far up that you can go!

So today I wanted to talk about laundry soap! Of course, I make my own. Do you? It is a super easy process and I have been using it for years and using it in my HE machine…no problem and no more specialized expensive soap! Ya Hoo! I find my clothes just as clean. I scent my laundry soap with lavender as well and then hang them out on the line to dry…oh I love this! And yes, sometime I do dry them in the dryer if I am in a pinch! So ya wanna know how to make your own liquid laundry soap?

Here is my recipe…just 6 super easy steps!

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Step 1: Grate one bar
of soap (approximately 2 cups) with cheese grater or food processor. I use my scraps from The Essential Olive, www.theessentilolive.com<span style="color: #232323; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">. It is a great soap and not harsh as the suggested bar is when you look up a recipe on the internet.
<span style="color: #232323; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Step 2: Put grated
soap in a pan with 2 quarts water and gradually heat, stirring constantly until
soap is completely dissolved.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Step 3: Put 4.5
gallons of really hot tap water in a 5-gallon bucket and stir in 1 cup of borax and 1 cup
of Washing Soda until completely dissolved.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Step 4: Pour soap
mixture from pan into 5-gallon bucket. Stir well.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Step 5: Cover and
leave overnight.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Step 6: Shake or stir
until smooth and pour into gallon jugs or other containers. Add Essential Oil if preferred. My favorite is Lavender!

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Use 1/2 to 1
cup per load.

This recipe is a great way to save money on laundry soap….are you ready….it costs approximately .05 cents a load and washes about 80 loads at 1/2 cup per load. Ya, that is what I am talking about! I love homemade and I love saving $$$. So where can you get soap scraps from? Shop no more…just email The Essential Olive at theessentialolive@gmail.com and ask for the 2 cups of grated soap laundry soap for $5.00. Or if you want to save yourself some time, you can ask for the laundry soap deal which comes with 2 cups of grated soap, 1 cup of borax and 1 cup of washing soap for $8.00. I can ship it to you for $5.05 USPS, just add heat & water! (Or if you are local, I will happy to meet you in town.)

I also buy a gallon of vinegar, add 10 drops of any essential oil you like (I like Lavender) and use that as my softener. Then for my dryer, I made homemade dryer balls! They work like a charm…again saving me $$ on dryer sheets. I purchase my Essential Oils from www.essentialthree.com and if you order them through me, you receive a 20% discount. (I love this company for the fact that I can talk to the owner directly with all questions and she is super friendly, helpful and full of knowledge. They are not a MLM and they are good, honest people to work with, plus they are located in Medford.)

If you have any questions about ingredients or the laundry soap, I will be happy to answer them…just email Debbie at theessentialolive@gmail.com.

Moving on….. and if you didn't know I not only sell soap and sundries, but tea! For the rest of July, Provence Tea is on SALE!

Provence Tea is a Rooibus tea made with Lavender, Rosehip, Elderberry, Rose flowers and Blueberries! It is the absolute best. I love it hot and cold. I love my hot with some rich cream and a little sugar (or honey) and cold with milk, ice cubes and a touch of sugar. So so so so yummy!!!! I drink a cup almost every night before I go to bed and I feel like I do sleep so much better…even if it is a hot night, I drink my hot tea….so good, so calming and so relaxing! You can order yours at www.theessentialolive.com
So #1 Why will cover a wide variety of subjects like soap
being biodegradable, different essential oils and their uses, recipes for
homemade cleaners (maybe even some yummy, easy & nutritious ones too!), life
lessons, gardening tips and the list goes on & on. This
then leads us to #2 Why which is what this blog will be about.

I’ll begin by saying that I love making homemade
anything. I make homemade breads &
jams, homemade laundry soap and window cleaner and of course homemade soap. I have also made quilts and rugs and wooden
shelves and a rocking horse for my daughter. I also
garden, can my foods, home schooled my children and have made my husband many homemade
shirts. The gals where I work PT now call me Pioneer Woman or Susie Homemaker. Either
title, I am proud to have. I love being
home and tending to the basics of life.

The Essential Olive was started for this love of
homemade…with soap. My neighbor taught
me how to make soap using tallow, water and lye…just three simple
ingredients. (Which btw, real soap is
made with lye!) So there I
was….rendering down the tallow, heating up the lye and water and then mixing
them all together to make…SOAP! I loved
it and was hooked. I kept making soap
and more soap and then added lip balm, body butter, massage oil and more. Currently, I am learning about the benefits
of essential oils. Oh…..the knowledge and
things to create are endless.

In a nutshell there it is and before I close I want to make a few confessions…the first being, I know this is short…but I want to keep it simple. We are so busy with life that I want it to be a quick & easy reader. Second…I am not very "computer savvy" so bear with me!
Hope this post finds you well and you are enjoying your summer. The McHugh tribe is good although with only Jacob left at home we are a small tribe! This mamma misses her kids being at home but is more than proud of them and that they are off living life as they should be!

So Tom and I made it back from our adventure in Africa. We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Africa…..such a different world. Tom had been to Kenya and Mozambique before, but for me, it was my first time. Thus, it was a bit of a culture shock for me and especially with being so tired when we arrived…48 hours of straight traveling with about 22 of that being on a plane. There were people everywhere…walking all about going someplace. Many of them were also grouped together along side of the road selling oranges, avocados, bananas, charcoal, wood or sugar came. As we traveled closer to the coast, boys were out on the side of the road selling shrimp and then more inland in the small village, boys ran along side of the slow moving cars when and were selling nuts. You would see many women walking along the roadside with bushel baskets of their goods and a baby strapped to their back. The children too and many would also have a baby strapped to their back. Some men had bicycles and they were loaded down with charcoal or large logs as well. It was incredible what loads these men would have on their bikes. So many people all living outside and only sleeping in their dark little mud huts. Yet, they all live in community. A different way of live than what I know.

They also live without much and are happy. The live simply. They don't have to concern themselves with insurance, changing the oil in the car, charging the computer or even what the latest iPhone is. I feel no need to feel sorry for them or indulge them with things from my world. They have their own culture, their own customs and their own way of living. As any race or nation though, we can learn from one another. Thus, this country of Mozambique is learning from people like Tracy Evans, Nate & Julie Miller, Heide, Natalie, Sarah and the Fitzsimons as well as the others on base that are called to live and work there. They are learning about trust and Jesus. They are learning about casting vision for the future for their children and their land from Nate & Julie. They are receiving an education from the Frtzsimons. The Beechers are teaching them wood crafting skills so that they can make a living and support their families. Sarah keeps the base in tack while Heide and Natalie can share the gospel and help them care for the babies who have lost their mothers. It is a beautiful base with a beautiful mission that help support many local Mozambiqan livelihoods.

So we arrived safely and got right to work. Tom was put on task of building a 4 sided sea saw. This will teach the kids balance. I can see it now…all the kids, about 60 of them, will try to all balance on the beams at once. He also worked on Natalie's ceiling fan, some shelves in Sarah's room, the new fencing for the Creche school and some chalking in Nate & Julie's room. I helped Julie write out thank you postcards for the financial gifts that were received. I also mended many little green uniforms mixed with the scent of the earth and sweat from their little bodies.

I spent some time in the school and enjoyed watching the daily tasks of the children while they recited things they learned and traced the letters of their names. One of my favorite things was watching them line up to get their toothbrushes and then go over to Mumba and get a dab of toothpaste squeezed onto their toothbrush. After that they all sat down on their grass mat and Mumba directed them in brushing as he counted to 10. When they covered their entire mouth, they all filed out the door over to the fence with a glass of water to swish and spit. They then rinsed out their mouth with water, came back in and returned their toothbrushes to the toothbrush holder. A sight to see in for this American girl.

My other favorite moment was when the children were asking me questions….how old was I, how many children did I have, did I have a goat and did I have chickens. They then proceeded to tell me what their morning looked like before they came to school. Most mornings consisted of them watching the siblings while their mother carried oil or long sticks of wood on her head back to thee home to cook with. When asked if I carried wood on my head to made breakfast, I explained to them that I do not carry wood on my head, but that I have a stove and I push a button and it makes fire. I am not sure if they understood this concept or not.

Another highlight of the trip was going out into the village and seeing the homes of the children. Quite different than our home. When we arrived, the children would run into the house and get their best chairs for us to sit on. These chairs might be kitchen chairs if you had money. If not, then you would probably get a little bench. At one home we visited, we were given an old tire for a seat. My most memorable home was that of 3 women and one nursing a baby, sitting on the red hard ground pulling all the corn off of the cob so it could dry it and then be preserved for the hunger season. There were a few children there but once our voices were heard, other children came running towards us from the path. Soon there were about a dozen little African children dressed in their stained and torn clothing ready to visit with play and laugh. Julie gathered them and we sang and then played a game….sort of like tag. It was so fun and the children squealed and giggled when trying to tag one another.

My stories could go on and on. I miss the children and their smiling faces. I learned so much and my eyes saw so much. I ate sudza and beans and fried cavassa which tasted like a homemade french fry….one of my favorite foods. I walked through the village that was tall with grass and shrubs and happy not to run into any snakes. I did like wearing my sneakers though…that way the ants did not crawl all over my toes and up my legs. I also like buying bananas and avocados along the side of the road. It was fun to bless them with more money than they wanted for their produce. Then of course, being in their generous culture, they insisted we take a few more bananas. Mozambique was beautiful and the view out the front porch was stunning.

After two weeks in the village of ___, we then headed to Johannesburg, South Africa, were we rented a little car…this was our Safari vehicle for Kruger National Park where we saw elephants, hippos, rhinos, crocodiles, guinna hens and lots of fun birds, a turtle, wart hogs, giraffes, kudus, impalas and zebras. So fun. We did not see any lions or leopards. Next time. To see they wild animals in the wild was stunning and incredible.

After South Africa, we then got on our flight to London where we enjoyed time with Russell and Liz Challis. We visited Windsor Palace and other homes with beautiful gardens. Tom got to enjoy a fast car ride in Russels sports car, we ate in a pub that was over 600 years old and also drove around the countryside and toured old churches and villages. Our last stop was to have tea, of course! The next day we walked along the Thames River and got a tour in a long boat. It belonged to a couple that was on their way through the channels to London. Ahhh, England….I love those old homes and small quaint villages.

After 3 days in London, we then headed back home…Redding, California! It felt good to be home and back on track again of planting the summers garden, making soap, hosting guests from around the world, gathering eggs and being with my kids once again.

So thank you everyone for all your financial support and purchases from The Essential Olive that helped us visit Mozambique. We were truly blessed as well as Nate and Julie and the people of Mozambique!

Bon Dia! (That is Good Day in Portuguese)

Hope this blog finds you well and enjoying the rains of northern California if you are in this area! I am loving the rain, the hail, the little bit of thunder and lightening!

Blogging is great, but I wish I would blog more! It is a great way to keep in touch and express who we are. So me, what have I been up to this past month…well, mostly preparing for our trip to Africa! Tom and I are headed out shortly and I have been making all of the last minute preparations….which seem endless when you live the life of Debbie! From having Jacob taking care of the worm farm, Granny selling the eggs, sending out those "I'm out of the office" emails, and training Jacob and Granny to run the business while I am gone! Whew!

So what will we do in Africa? Our plan is to go over and assist Nate and Julie with numerous tasks. Some planned activities for Tom will be planting trees and handy-man projects, but the main goal for Tom will to be in finalizing plans and helping with the construction of the new Creche school.
He will also be running electricity and water down to the school property. Debbie will be assisting with house visits and Friday Outreach as well as preparing meals for the team. She will also assist Julie in setting up the new Creche School.

How can you help? You can stock up on soaps, lip balms and all the other goodies you will find at The Essential Olive! All proceeds from the month of April will go towards helping Julie & Nate with their Creche Program and also to Tom and myself's trip over there!

So put on your shopping shoes and head towards www.theessentialolive.com. Or if you live in Redding area and want to stop by the house, feel free!
I hope that this new year of 2014 has started off fantastic and brings with it health, happiness and that you find the simple things in life that bring you true peace and joy. There is nothing better than having a pure peace within you so that as you on this journey of life, you are stable and can ride the waves in a forward motion.

I am at home today and have my list of "to dos". I love my lists. I love organization. I love time and so wish I could multiply myself to develop my entrepreneur skills and have time to create, learn and do it all. The website Pinterst has created in a me too many "want to dos". So much fun and so much creativity to explore....does anyone else have this problem?

I just popped out from its mold a batch of Lemon & Clove with Poppyseed for exfoliation and a batch of Ocean Rain for a fresh & clean scent. These are some of my best sellers and I needed to stock up after Christmas. Today I am making Patchoulli and Sandlewood Vanilla. Oh, I love these smells and the benefits of essential oils are so healthy of us. Patchouli is used for an anti depressant that can help people get over the feeling of being depressed and fills them with new hopes. Patchouli also promotes growth by helping to generate the production of new body cells such as skin cells to keep the body looking vibrant and young. Patchouli also generates red blood cells as well. Sandlewood, another favorite, is used as an anti spasmodic which is a relaxant and sedative in nature. Sandlewood relaxes nerves, muscles and blood vessels so that it ends spasms or contractions. This is helpful when treating coughs, cramps and aches, etc. Lastly, Sandlewood can be used as a memory booster. I know for myself over the years, too many things need to be stored in my mind and I cannot seem to remember them all. Sandlewood improves memory and induces concentration to keep the brain relaxed. It also saves us from undue stress and anxiety.

And with Valentines Day coming up, Olive You or better known as (I love you) is celebrating your Valentine and how beautiful she is with their Valentine's Day Gift Set. This year I found what I wanted to get each of them at a craft fair. I think each of them will love it in an individual way. Yes, they are all getting the same thing in a sense....but in a variety of ways we will say. My choice allows me the freedom of not having to answer the question of "what should I get them?" and not just getting them anything for the sake of it. It also solves the last minute shopping problem and busy stores. Doesn't that sound nice? Well let the Essential Olive help you this year. Shop the website at www.TheEssentialOlive.com or come and visit me at local craft fair. (See the schedule on the past post.) You can, like me, get them all the same thing in a different sort of way. For instance, you can get them a bar of sweet smelling Coconut Organic Soap or a bar of Relaxation for the gals....who wouldn't love that? The guys will enjoy a masque line scent of Autumn Afternoon or Jacob. I recently made a Fishermens Body Butter too. It is made with Anise Oil which removes the human scent so our men can catch more fish. Thinking about stocking stuffers.... well then think no more and pick up some Lip Balms, Sea Salt Scrubs and Body Sprays. O.K., now check the list below and make sure you got everyone.
It has been absolutely beautiful here in Redding California and our family is well. I have been busy with craft fairs and making lots of soap and other sundries for Christmas sales. Tom just got back from Alturas on his hunting trip with his brother-in-law that shot a 4-point buck. He was able to bring some of the venison home and so tonight we cut up and wrapped the meat. Our freezer is overflowing with abundance this year not only with venison, but pork and chicken that we raised as well as some grass-fed beef that we purchased. On top of that I have lots of frozen vegetables from my garden and frozen fruit that my mother-in-law picked, froze and brought down to us. Yes, we are enjoying the most delicious meals and desserts. If you pop in around dinner time, we will be sure to set an extra table setting for you too. The kids are well. Jess continues to work at the dentist office and enjoys it. Nate is in his first year of college and Jacob is at U-Prep. Soccer season has quickly ended once again and well here we are....beautiful October. I love this time of year. The weather is perfect, the leaves are turning colors of brilliant red, a creamy yellow and a tangy orange. Walking through the leaves and listening to them crackle under my feet bring fond memories of growing up in Michigan where fall is truly amazing with color and crisp air.

I hope you are well and had a great summer. We did and of course it went by way too fast. We had a great time though visiting family in Michigan, a wedding and going to Drummond Island. Lovely. We had a few great camping trips too to put in the memory book of 2012 as well.

So I have been busy canning/freezing tomatoes, beets, corn, green beans and other yummy veggies from the garden so that we can enjoy organic homegrown food during the winter. Now this makes me feel good. This is why I chose not to work more than 2 days a week at my job, so that I can raise my own food, make my meals from scratch, and create my own personal products. Love it!

So I just recently made 2 new items. The first is the new Bite ME Not Body Butter which you will read about below. The second which is not quite done yet, but will be at all of the Shows that I have coming up....and that is Massage Oil. My husband recently got very interested in massaging...now what wife would say no to a massage? So, being the smart wife that I am, I ordered the essential oils for a sensual and a relaxing massage as well as the carrier oils that would be best for the skin. (We will talk about the benefits of these oils in another blog.) So we made some, tested it out and loved it. The sensual massage oil has ylang, ylang, patchouli and sandalwood vanilla in it. Oh, it is nice and it will be a perfect Christmas gift for anyone! Like I said, who turns down a massage?

You will have to stop by at some of my shows to check out the new scents in soaps that I have too. So ta ta for now. Have a super day and until next time......
